Sarah-Howie duet a hit

Howie Dorough of the Backstreet Boys was in Manila recently to join Sarah Geronimo in promoting Ill Be There, the first single from her latest album Just Me. Howie recorded a duet with Sarah while on one of his solo stints. Sarah is still overwhelmed by Howies visit and his decision to sing with her. I feel so honored that he agreed to come here for the launch of my CD, says Sarah. Sikat na sikat kasi siya. He is one of the Backstreet Boys. I used to just listen to them, but now ay ka-duet ko na siya! While in town, Sarah and Howie shot the music video of Ill Be There. He also joined Sarah at ASAP 08 on ABS-CBN. This was followed by a performance at the Music Hall of the SM Mall of Asia. Land Down Under mishap

The making of Land Down Under is proving to be a challenge, mostly because of the other 50 percent of the cast: The horses. These animals are not yet used to the glare of the cameras and its not like they have been trained to stay put and smile during photo shoots. John Manalo was chased down by a horse not a few weeks ago, and this time, it was Angel Locsin who was apparently hit with a rope in the eye during a shoot while attempting to gallop on her horse to chase Piolo, who had a headstart. She has now recovered from her eye injury and has resumed taping. Even Ricky Davao was not spared. He also fell off his horse, but came out of the incident without a scratch. The blinding lights of the camera flash had a horse backing up into a cluster of palm trees, with Piolo Pascual straddled on it. Accidents are inevitable, since the film is shot mostly outdoors, but the cast has been able to avoid any major mishaps because of the expert cowboys of Bukidnon. Good job, boys!

Ang Lihim ni Antonio joins

New York filmfest

Ang Lihim ni Antonio (Antonios Secret), directed by Joselito Altarejos, is a participant in the Imageout filmfest in Rochester, New York where the movie received raves from Michael Gamilla. He writes: Antonios Secret takes a raw and honest look at the not-so-secret, and sometimes downright depraved, sex life of teenage boys. Director Joselito Altarejos adds a layer of depth by telling a rich story of a confused young man, growing up with few available positive role models, who makes crucial choices and is forced to face their tragic consequences. Using a sometimes wobbly handheld camera without employing much of a musical soundtrack, except for the occasional tunes from the acoustic guitar of a neigHBOrhood musician, Altarejos pulls his audiences in and makes it a highly voyeuristic and intimate affair.

John Wayne was a no show

Through Star Magic Public Relations director Rikka Dylim, John Wayne Saces handler Luz Bagalacsa admitted to Buzzstation that the actor is indeed in Puerto Princesa, Palawan with his girlfriend, but denied she is pregnant. This column published this scoop last Friday. Buzzstation clarified the latest information with its source, who stood by the report that this girlfriend is pregnant. This source stated in a text message: Ano kaya ang tawag doon sa malaki ang tiyan di naman mataba ang girlfriend? Several local reporters have approached him for an interview. They have been unable to talk to him for one reason or another, but John Wayne promised to be interviewed in a radio show last Monday. The girlfriend whom he publicly refers to as his wife, as well as his mother and aunt have moved from a rented apartment on Recaido Subdivision to a rented two-storey house along Valencia St. the actor was unable to attend a Maalaala Mo Kaya taping because he was in Puerto Princesa on taping day. He also failed to show up for the Monday interview.

Filipina actress in foreign movie release

Actor/writer Edgar Sandalo reports: I Love You, Betty La Fea stars Marife Necesito. Marife has a breakout role in the domestic drama Mammoth, a film that includes Hollywood stars Gael Garcia Bernal (Babel) and Michelle Williams (Brokeback Mountain), where she got the lead role that brought her to the US and Sweden. It was Marifes role that got the highest talent fee and the longest exposure. Mammoth is due for international release next year. In 2004, Marife was cast in Angel Villa with Dennis Trillo and another in the Cinema One cable station ID with the Ang Buhay, Parang Sine line. Here, Marife played the role of Diana Zubiri in Liberated, Part 1. For I Love You, Betty La Fea, she will be seen on the 7th week as the girl with Ai Ai delas Alas.

Watch out for the Supreme Rule as the Home of NU Rock NU107 celebrates its 15th year of honoring the musical bosses who rocked the nation in the NU107 Rock Awards 2008 happening on Nov. 27 at Silvercity, Frontera Verde, Pasig City. Rock enthusiasts and band supporters have a month to participate in the online polling. They may cast their votes by logging on to www.nu107fm.com and registering until Oct. 25. Instructions on how to proceed will be given online. The winners for the categories will be partly determined via online voting through the Web site. All online votes will be tallied at the end of the polling period and winners vying for the titles will be revealed during the NU107 Rock Awards 2008.

Erik Santos to celebrate birthday

This year, Prince of Pop Erik Santos has opted for a more meaningful and memorable way of celebrating his birthday (Oct. 10) by having a hospital tour around Metro Manila titled One Voice, One Heart. During the hospital visit, he will sing and give gifts to hospital patients. This is Eriks way of sharing and giving back the blessings he has been receiving all these years. Erik will visit several hospitals: Philippine General Hospital (Oct. 8), Philippine Childrens Medical Center (Oct. 15), National Childrens Hospital (Oct. 17), Ospital ng Maynila (Oct. 21), Jose Reyes Memorial Hospital (Oct. 22), Jose Fabella Memorial Hospital (Oct. 27), San Juan de Dios Hospital (Oct. 28) and Quezon City General Hospital (Oct. 29). In spite of all his achievements, Erik remains kind and down-to-earth.
