Competition opens door for kids to become entertainment celebrities

Timothy Lambert Chan, a cute six-year-old, has already been cast in two movies. Seven-year-old Jacie Gwyne Odiver, seven years old, is now a commercial model. Eleven-year-old Ma. Nicole Jeremiah Dulalia is already a cast member in GMA 7 shows while both Byron Spark Ortile and Joshua Cadelina are familiar faces on television. What do all of them have in common? Aside from their talents and stage presence, they are all past winners in the Ever Kiddie Stars competition.

The Ever Kiddie Stars, started in 2004, is a competition in search for the next image models of Ever Gotesco Malls. This is an institutional campaign encouraging kids aged four to seven years old to shine with their exceptional talents on singing, dancing and acting.

Through the years, Ever Kiddie Stars has been paving the way for its winners to become kiddie celebrities too. In fact, the competition has created a stepping stone to the success of some of the industry’s biggest child stars at the moment.

"Our competition has definitely opened doors for our participants and winners to join the entertainment industry. It was in our event where their talents were recognized for the first time, and now they have regular stints in TV," said Alexis Querubin, marketing manager of Ever malls.

Timothy Lambert Chan won the Ever Kiddie Stars contest in 2007. Today he has already done various commercials and is currently a cast in the primetime soap, "May Bukas Pa." When asked what he’d like to be when he grows up, Timothy said he wants to become a pilot.

On the other hand, Ma. Nicole Jeremiah Dulalia, Ever Kiddie Star winner in 2005, was cast in GMA 7 soaps as the young Jennilyn Mercado and Yasmien Kurdi. Nicole said she enjoyed being able to sing and dance during the Ever competition and would like to become a serious actress someday.

Jacie Gwyne Odiver, Ever Kiddie Star’s grand winner in 2007, is an ambassadress of goodwill for the Mother Earth Foundation where she represented the Philippines in a pageant held in Singapore. The best part, she said, of joining the Ever contest was meeting lots of friends. She hopes to become a doctor when she grows up.

Energetic and adorable, Byron Spark Ortile was last year’s grand winner. The young guy has a flair for dancing and idolizes actor/ dancer Mark Herras whom he has already worked with in a few GMA shows. A familiar face in many commercials, Byron enjoyed his stint during the Ever competition and plans to pursue acting.

The first Ever Kiddie Stars grand winner Joshua Cadelina is now an ABS-CBN talent. He was part of the main cast in "Kampanerang Kuba" and "Kokey," and a main stay host of Studio 23’s "Tagteam." He also moved on to be a first runner-up in ABS-CBN’s "Little Big Star." Joshua’s immediate goal? To finish school and become an engineer.

"Ever Kiddie Stars is reaching out to parents who know that their kids have the talent and determination to succeed. We are setting a stage for kids to express themselves through singing, dancing or acting," said Alexis.

Officially launched last March 8, there will be a series of screenings to be held at the Ever malls at Ortigas, Commonwealth, Recto, and Grand Central in Caloocan. After the screenings, there will be a semi-final competition where the winners will move on to the Mall Finals. Those who will make it to the top 3 (boy and girl division) of the Mall Finals will join the Grand Finals which will be held on May 31 at Ever Ortigas.

There are a total of eight awards to be given in the Grand Finals: Mr. & Ms. Friendship; Best in Summer Wear (1 boy & 1 girl); Best in Costume (1 boy & 1 girl); Best in Talent (1 boy & 1 girl); Mr. & Ms. Photogenic; Best in Barong & Best in Gown; Best in Sportswear (1 boy & 1 girl) and Mr. & Ms. Ever Kiddie Stars Grand Winners. The Ever Kiddie Stars 2009 Grand Winners will each get P50,000 worth of prizes. The 1st runner-up winners will each get P30,000 worth of prizes while the 2nd runner-up winners will each get P15,000 worth of prizes.

Alexis also said that more than just a yearly competition, Ever Kiddie Stars is also an instant summer workshop for kids. The qualified contestants will attend a series of classes on singing, dancing, acting and modeling as preparation for the finals.

Aside from improving their skills, the workshop is a chance for the kids to gain new friends and create unforgettable memories of a different summer vacation. "The events leading to the finals are sure to be a fun experience for all the kids and their parents," said Alexis. "This will be the best summer for kids and their parents!"
