| Serna: Night of HeritageAuthor: Sun.Star Roger Serna TONIGHT, the Gabii sa Kabilin (Night of Heritage) returns for the third time as Cebu museums keep their doors open from 6 p.m to 12 m.n. One can gain entrance to six museums (the Casa Gorordo, the Yap-Sandiego ancestral house, the Cathedral Museum, the Sto. Niño Museum, Fort San Pedro and, the newest participant, Museo Sugbo), which stay open for a night of activities at an affordable price of only P100. Enjoy the heritage tour on foot or onboard a tartanilla (at P50 per person). *** Let's see what we have in store for the weekend and shortly after. I know of at least two celebrities who will be here in Cebu tomorrow. Upstart AJ Perez is the celebrity guest in the launch of Gaisano Main's and Country Mall's Shop for Scholarship Promo upon Rosemarie Gaisano's invitation. Fresh from his nerve wracking experience, Richard Gutierrez shows to one and all that come what may, the show must go on. Richard fulfills his promise to personally appear before his countless fans in Metro Gaisano's Back To School Sale also tomorrow at Metro Colon at 2 p.m., at Metro Mandaue at 4 p.m. and at Metro Ayala at 5 p.m. *** On Sunday, May 31, the first ever Santacruzan sa Parian takes off with a holy mass at the Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral at 2:30 p.m. followed by a procession ending in front of the 18th century Yap-Sandiego ancestral house at corner Mabini and Lopez-Jaena streets. The Reina Emperatriz is Ma. Rachel Maningo, wife of my good friend Gil of Kulas T-shirts fame, while Veronica Chiongbian, daughter of Jeffrey and Vivian of George & Peter Lines, is Reina Elena. The other ladies in the list are Rosevie Lim, Carla Casiño, Sheena Leigh Alcontin, Rochelle Vega-Siu, Apple Abarquez, Kim Usog, Mary Ann Dakay, Ma. Dolores Rimaz, Joy Uy, Jamie Kokseng, Remie Dejillas, Keisha Bacalla, Jona May Ricaño, Jeanelyn Guleng, Rosemary Gore, Monik Lorraine Ros, Kara Mae Noveda and Ma. Christine Mordin. Dressing up the ladies Didi Araneta, Carl Miñoza, Paolo Viajar, Marlon Wafer, Roger Salazar, Leonardo Igloria, Allan Plattring, Marlowe Dacules, Lemuel Rosos, Harvey Cenit, Cris Abines, Ryan Dominguez, Joseph Navales, Jonas Navarro, Bernardo Flores and Pewee Senining. Cebu's pride Raki Vega (she's one of the sagalas, take note!) and the famous Sandiego Dance Company will perform during the dinner for a cause which is organized by Val Sandiego. The Santacruzan sa Parian is organized by the Taytayan heritage organization headed by Val himself for the benefit of the nearby San Juan Bautista chapel. *** The Gintong Galing ng Pinoy show featured both local and Manila-based artists at their best. The five finalists (Fire Attraction, Karl Anthony Gonzaga, Danica Caballes, Queency Ruth Bernales, and Walter Gabatu and Vanessa Aranas) showed that Cebuanos can really excel in any performing arts discipline. Fire Attraction was my choice. It turned out to be the judges' favorite too. *** It was the first time for me to see Jericho Rosales sing and I was impressed (don't forget I'm one of those whom Manila performers dread for being a hard-to-please audience). Except for his limp left wrist that to me was distracting (hopefully, that does not betray his gender, ha-ha!), Jericho's brief leave from acting proved to be of good use. Grand Star Dreamer Yeng Constantino also showed good performance but her movement was restricted by her one-shoulder wardrobe. She reminded me of the model in a deodorant commercial that lifts her arm and puts it down in a flash for fear of others having a peek at her dark underarm. Fresh from his Pop Icons show with Mark Bautista, Piolo Pascual, Erik Santos and Sam Milby, Christian Bautista wowed the Cebu concert lovers once again. I hope he adds more weight to enhance his good-looking face some more, which I suspect was what made girls near us shout out loud more than his singing. As a whole, the entire show was an enjoyable one. Who was that who said it was below par? Oh, maybe I'm not that hard to please after all. Whatever. Source: Sunstar Daily |
