ABS-CBN child star Sharlene San Pedro is very happy about her new TV series "Princess Sarah" where she plays the title role.

"ABS-CBN gave me a big role. I like it very much because of the new experiences I have in doing the show. It's my first time to work with the members of the 'Princess Sarah' cast," San Pedro said.

San Pedro and the rest of the "Princess Sarah" cast, kids and adults alike, met the press dressed in their various costumes. San Pedro herself wore the trademark gown she uses for the show.

The child actress said that she has a very good relationship with the rest of the cast and so far, she encountered no problems while doing the taping.

San Pedro admitted that aside from focusing on memorizing her lines she attended an acting workshop with the other child child stars.

San Pedro proudly told reporters that despite her hectic schedule playing Princess Sarah, she is still studying and she's now in Grade 3.

Classic
San Pedro stars in ABS-CBN's new musical fantasy series as Princess Sarah Crewe. The story of Princess Sarah has been retold in various formats since the original story by author Frances Hodgson Burnett appeared in serialized form in 1888.

The serialized novella was titled "Sara Crewe: or, What Happened at Miss Minchin's Boarding School".

In 1905, Burnett published the original novella in book form, titled "A Little Princess". Since then the story has captured the imagination of children around the world.

In 1985, a Japanese cartoon or anime series was made based on Burnett's novel. It was titled "Princess Sarah".

The story of Sarah Crewe was such a hit with Filipino audiences, it spawned a live-action TV series and a live-action feature film. In both the TV show and film, then child star Camille Pratts starred as Sarah, while Angelica Panganiban played the role of Becky, Sarah's kind-hearted friend.

Panganiban won a Best Supporting Actress award for that role.

Christmas gift
ABS-CBN's adaptation of the story of Princess Sarah is the Kapamilya network's early Christmas present for the kids of all ages and the entire family.

It revolves around a princess, Sarah Crewe, who lives in a boarding school for rich girls, but was orphaned by her father and had to work as a maid and suffered maltreatment from some of the students and the owner of the boarding school, the cruel Miss Minchin.

But with Sarah's pure heart she will survive and emerge not only as the Princess of Diamonds, but the Princess of Hearts.

The rest of the "Princess Sarah" cast includes actor Albert Martinez (Ralph Crewe), Sheryl Cruz (Ms. Minchin), Diether Ocampo (Master Crisford), Carlos Agassi (Mr. Burrows); Candy Pangilinan (Miss Amelia); Irish Fullerton (Miss Viola); and Ms. Ai Ai de las Alas as Ramadass.

The rest of the cast is completed by Matt Evans, Melissa Ricks, Lui Villaruz, Helga Krapf and hot fashion model Bubbles Paraiso, in her first foray into acting.

"Princess Sarah" is one of ABS-CBN's biggest projects for this year and is directed by Nuel Naval and Don Cuaresma.

"Princess Sarah" will premiere November 12, this coming Monday on ABS-CBN's Primetime Bida, right after TV Patrol World.

Sharlene San Pedro joined ABS-CBN's Star Circle Kid Quest in 2004, after which she starred in her own teleserye, "Calla Lily". She is now a regular castmember of the kiddie gag show "Goin' Bulilit."
