| Star Magic brings back its workshopsAuthor: Malaya Last February, 2000 Filipinos came from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao and even as far as Australia, Germany, Japan, Switzerland, Spain, Canada and the US for the registration and interview for the workshops of ABS-CBN. Seven hundred students were accepted. The basic acting workshop for film and television was conducted by award-winning directors and actors from the film and television industry. Theater and film actor Bodjie Pascua, veteran film and TV director Mel Chionglo, veteran film and TV actor and director Soxie Topacio, veteran film and TV director Maryo J. Delos Reyes, film and TV actress Vangie Labalan, scriptwriter Ricky Lee, West End actor Jake Macapagal, theater and film actress Dr. Edna Mae Landicho and Cambodian Circus Troop Teatro Du Soleil Dramaturgy director Phil Noble were all part of the talented team of instructors for the workshops. Heading the group is Star Magic head of artist training, film and TV director, Rahyan Carlos. The three months intensive training consisted of 17 sessions, 5 to 6 hours of training were allotted per day. Each student took part in improvisations, relaxation, body and movement exercises, script analysis, sense memory, being exercises, method acting, scene studies, monologue and a lot of acting in front of the camera. All the principles and techniques learned were put into application during their scene study and monolog for their culminating activity last may at the Dolphy Theater. Kid participants acted with Star Magic actors in front of the camera while the teen and adult participants delivered their monolog in front of multiple cameras and a live audience. It was then critiqued by veteran directors and actors. Director Bebong Osorio, who witnessed the activity, was all praises. He said, "After I saw the scene study presentation of the kids, magagaling lahat ng mga workshoppers. Congrats!" Jean Paul Manuud II, a 15-year-old participant of the teens and adults acting workshop, shared his experienced to Star Magic, "Tingin ko po hindi lang ako nag-improvesa acting, pati po ang personality ko. Nagkaroon na ako ng tiwala sa sarili ko." The mother of 16-year-old EJ Laurel, who resides in Las Vegas, told Direk Rahyan after the culminating activity, "I just wanted to say thank you, kasibefore yung anak ko tamad mag-aral, palaging late,natatakot ako baka kung kani-kaninong gang sa states mapunta yung anak ko but after the workshop naging responsible siya, nagkaron ng discipline. He learned life lessons, Direk. Aalis na po kami next week going back to our hometown in Las Vegas. Well be forever grateful for the workshop and experience you gave my son!" Aside from acting, there was also a film and TV production workshop conducted by professionals in the film and TV industry and dance workshops handled by the G-Force of the weekend noontime show, "A.S.A.P." The Star Magic workshop team is currently on its second wave of training which will culminate in August.
