It was a rainy afternoon but everyone was still able to enjoy the sunset when the rain eventually stopped, and at around 6:30 p.m. the sky was clear. It was so clear that there were almost no stars in the sky.

At Edsa Shangri-La’s Isla Ballroom, the stars were all there for the second grand Star Magic Ball to celebrate the country’s premiere Talent Management and Development Center’s 16th year.

The artists of ABS-CBN Star Magic, headed by Claudine Barretto and Piolo Pascual came in their best. The ladies came in white or black gowns, the gentlemen in dinner jackets. The ballroom was decked with giant floral arrangements from Mabolo Flowers as the buffet tables were spread out with mouth-watering dishes.

Dancing started early in the evening with DJ Kimosave providing the music.

Other Star Magic artists in attendance were Diether Ocampo, Kristine Hermosa, John Lloyd Cruz, Bea Alonzo, Sam Milby, Kim Chiu, Gerald Anderson, Roxanne Guinoo, Jake Cuenca, Rayver Cruz, Shaina Magdayao, Zanjoe Marudo, Rica Peralejo, Carlos Agassi, Pokwang, John Prats, the PBB Teens, first PDA scholars and many more. Other artists not under the Star Magic management that graced the affair included Angel Locsin, Luis Manzano, Mark Bautista, Erik Santos, Anne Curtis, Valerie Concepcion, Carlene Aguilar, Desiree del Valle, Ai-Ai de las Alas, Martin Nievera and Willie Revillame (who came with a very young lady named Nadine). Jericho Rosales was also in attendance and was even spotted on the dance floor with Kristine Hermosa. Raymart Santiago was also in the event to support Claudine Barretto.

The event was also graced by ABS-CBN chairman and chief executive Gabby Lopez, president and chief operating officer Charo Santos-Concio, former president and senior consultant FrEddie Garcia and executives such as Cory Vidanes, Malou Santos, Deo Endrinal, March Ventosa, August Benitez, Leo Katigbak, Paolo Pineda, Bong Osorio, Mark Yambot, Johnny Sy, Charles Game, Evelyn Javier, Linggit Tan, Cathy Perez, Alou Almaden, Emma Vilbar, Rizza Ebriega, Tess Fuentes, Edson Aguiflor, Ronald Arguelles, Gina Lopez and Monchet Olives.

Other prominent guests include Ryan Cayabyab, directors Erick Salud and Rowell Santiago, ABS-CBN Publishing’s Raul Manzano, Philip Cu-Unjieng, Katrina Holigores, Biboy Arboleda, designers Francis Libiran, Nat Manilag, Rajo Laurel and Ino Caluza, style consultant Luis Espiritu, makeup maven Chechel Joson, Katrina Ante, Phoemela Barranda, talent managers Girlie Rodis and Shirley Kuan, Lawrence Tan and Eric Pe Benito. Edsa Shangri-La general manager Christopher Chia and wife Christina and public relations director Malou Rosal also graced the affair.

The event would not have been possible without the help of Keren Pascual. It was also ably supported by Coke Light, Moet Chandon, Planet Flip-flops and Edsa Shangri-La Hotel. Guests were also treated to goodies from Coke Lite. Fashion designers such as Francis Libiran, Nat Manilag, Patrice Ramos-Diaz, Joey Samson, Louis Claparols, Jun Escario, LZ Punzalan, Brian Leyva, Veejay Fioresca, Jerome Lorico, Eric de los Santos, Reian Mata, Mitzi Quilendrino, Ferdie Abuel, Patty Eustaquio and Randy Ortiz also deserve a round of applause for the stylish outfits for the evening.

After the sumptuous dinner, Nikki Gil opened the show. She introduced Richard Poon who somehow provided the entertainment for the evening. There were numbers when he was joined by the Star Magic artists. The first was when he sang a Spiral Staircase medley with Piolo Pascual, Jed Madela, Diether Ocampo, John Lloyd Cruz and Sam Milby. This was followed by a hot dance number with lifts, twirls and flips which featured Saicy Aguila, Gem Ramos, Michelle Murenec, Princess Ryan, Thou Reyes, Arron Villaflor, Rodjun Cruz, Tim Espinosa, Sam Concepcion, Andi Eigenmann and Pokwang. Richard Poon also sang a duet with Nikki Gil before the Star Magic artists presented their rigodon. Awards were bestowed on Piolo Pascual, Bea Alonzo, Rafael Rosell and Malaya Lewandowski as Coke Fashion Icons and Anne Curtis and Sam Milby as Moet Chandon Sparkling Couple of the Night. PBB Teen Edition Plus Big Winner Ejay Falcon came out a big winner once again that night as he won an Asian cruise from Star Cruise Philippines. FrEddie Garcia, one of the brains behind the creation of Star Magic, was greeted an advance happy birthday as he celebrates his natal day on July 13. Planet Flip Flops also gave a donation to Bayan Ni Juan. Just like the previous ball, after the rigodon, the dance floor was full as everyone danced to hip-hop/disco music with Dino Imperial providing DJ spiels.

Once again, it was truly a fun-filled magical night! With the success of the two Star Magic balls, everyone now considers it a tradition and looks forward to the next. The magic continues with ABS-CBN Star Magic!
