Karylle and Sid Lucero have quite a number of things in common. They are both children of celebrities, for one. And they are products of broken homes.

Karylle’s mom is singer Zsa Zsa Padilla, who gave birth to her when the Divine Diva was 16 years old.

Karylle’s dad, Modesto Tatlonghari, is a dentist. She knows her dad loves her mom so much yet she understands, too, why they had to go their separate ways.

"Even if they are separated," said Karylle, "they both shower me with love. And I, in return, just don’t love them but I am grateful to both of them."

Sid knew his parents, Mark Gil and Bing Pimentel, both got married when they were very young. They teamed up in the movie, "Batch ’81," which was Mark’s launching vehicle. They fell in love and decided to get married. But after having him and his sister, Maxine, they separated.

The separation notwithstanding, they never stopped loving Sid and his sister. They also tried giving them the best education possible.

For example, said Sid, until his second year college, he was enrolled at the Ateneo University taking up a course in Philosophy.

He decided to transfer to the College of St. Benilde and take up a new course called Technical Theater which would have allowed him to work in showbiz as production designer or make-up artist.

But then showbiz beckoned. His parents, his dad especially, were not keen on the idea that he stop schooling and try acting.

"But, by then," said Sid, whose real name is Timothy Mark Eigenmann, "I had made up my mind."

Why he chose Sid Lucero for his screen name is because, even his talent manager Ricky Gallardo agrees, it has a "connection" to his parents.

In "Batch ’81," the only movie which Mark and Bing ever made together, Mark played the character named Sid Lucero.

So, now that he seems to be doing well in his career, how does his dad feel about it?

"Sabi niya, for me to continue doing my job well. And I promised him I will," Sid said.

Contrary to what people think, "Dahil May Isang Ikaw," is not Karylle and Sid’s first project together.

On GMA 7, where they both started their showbiz careers, they appeared together in the teleserye, titled "Etheria."

Are they partners in "Dahil May Isang Ikaw"?

"Actually, we really don’t know yet kung ano ang magiging connection naming sa isa’t isa," said Karylle. "Basta sa ngayon, most of my scenes are with Kristine (Hermosa), Jericho (Rosales), Ms. Chin Chin (Gutierrez), Mr. John (Estrada), and my Tita in real life, Tita Lorna (Tolentino).

"Tita Lorna is supposedly the adoptive mom of Jericho, with whom I’m in love."

In real life, Lorna and Zsa Zsa are first cousins, as their mothers are sisters.

"Sobra nga ang relasyon namin ni Tita Lorna, since her late husband, Tito Rudy (Fernandez) is also a first cousin of my mom," informs Karylle. "My mom’s father is a brother of Tito Rudy’s mother.

"Small world, ‘di ba?

A compelling story of families, of mothers and fathers, their children, and how their lives are intertwined by love, tangled by envy, and twisted by sacrifice, "Dahil May Isang Ikaw," directed by Jerry Lopez-Sineneng and Rechie del Carmen, is the first daily primetime series of Karylle and Sid. Likewise, it’s their first time to be in a series which has a powerhouse cast.

How do they feel working with some of the best in the field of entertainment?

"It is overwhelming," said both. "But we both know we have to do our utmost best. Kung hindi, baka damputin kami sa kangkungan (they laugh). Pag nagkataon, dyahe, di ba?"

While Sid admits his romance with his girlfriend of six years is very stable, Karylle reveals that she has yet to fall in love again after her much-publicized break-up with Dingdong Dantes.

Now looking prettier, more confident and calm, she has totally moved on. She will fall in love again definitely but she is not in a hurry to do so. Although she admits she misses the excitement of being in love.

She’s not complaining, she stressed. The significant acting experience she earned through the musical plays she has participated in, plus the previous projects on films and television she has done, is enough for her at the moment. "Otherwise," she smiles, "baka sabihin ng Diyos umaabuso ako."
