'The more, the merrier'

Author: Bong De Leon
Column: Check It Out

ON May 16, Regine Velasquez starts hosting another show, a reality-based singing star search after Pinoy Idol, Are You The Next Big Star? on GMA7.

Isn't she threatened by the avalanche of talents auditioning for the show? "Not at all," she says during the presscon. "The more, the merrier. "

It's never fair to deprive deserving talents of venues to show what they have, she says. "Saka, it's hard to tell naman who's gonna make it, even if they win in contests like this. Nasa tao pa rin 'yon if they will embrace them after the contest is over. "

A case in point are some popular singers now who either lost or just placed runner ups in singing contests. Sam Concepcion won over Charice Pempengco in Little Big Star, but where is the former now?

Meanwhile, Regine doesn't want to talk about the rumored wedding between her and Ogie Alcasid. An annulment case between Ogie and wife Michelle van Eimeren is still in court and talking about its merits would somehow jeopardize the proceedings.

JOEY'S SON SHINES

THREE more weeks and "All About Eve" is saying goodbye. But Keempee de Leon, who stars in the series, isn't worried that he would be left with no shows. He was tapped as Regine Velasquez's co-host in Are You The Next Big Star?, which was a long time coming. Keempee is the son of one of the most effective TV hosts, Joey de Leon, and he should have inherited the knack for holding watchers at bay.

In fact, when he auditioned for the part, there were 40 contenders. Keempee was left with five others but he outshone them all when he started to interview some of the contestants.

"Medyo madugo pala 'yung part ko," he reveals. "Hindi lang ako sa studio. Lalabas din ako, pupunta ako sa mga bahay nila, pakikialaman ko ang mga buhay-buhay nila. "

So how's his lovelife?

"Bahala na," he says with a laugh.
WRONG INFOMERCIAL?

WE wonder if some people at the Department of Education don't frown at the LBC Padala TVC where a child spells the word 'remittance' as capital LBC. We know it's just a commercial where Edu Manzano stars as the spelling bee master but it might mislead some children.

We find it funny, but aren't we teaching our children the wrong notion? Remember, it is shown on national TV and children might take it seriously.

A DOG'S LIFE FOR TELENOVELA

HAVE you seen a lovable monkey who takes care of a paralyzed human? Or a dog whose life could be a good material for a telenovela? How about a pig who gets insecure, a bird who sings so well, and another dog who can outshine them at the dance floor?

Well, let Koko and Kawkaw, two super sexy women (played by hosts Jose Manalo and Wally Bayola) who work in a carwash tell all about them tonight, in Bilib Ka Ba Nights presents Wow, Hayop on GMA 7 telebabad.

'BG' SUMMER SPECIAL

ON Friday night, watch the second part of the Bubble Gang summer special.

There will be more sexy babes like Maureen Larrazabal, Rufa Mae Quinto and Pauleen Luna to see. Ogie Alcasid, Michael V, Boy 2 Quizon, Wendell Ramos, Antonio Aquitania do their share of laugh out loud comedy.

Also, don't miss the Paracetamol TVC spoof by Michael V, or get a headache.
