At sa any affair of either of them, talagang they make it a point na dumalo.

Pero, tulad ng alam din ng lahat, may 'di magandang insidente, which stirred a big showbiz controversy involving Gretchen and John.

Gretchen and her partner for 13 years now, Tonyboy Cojuangco, are set to leave for the U. S. again for the latter's medical treatment.

Pero, hindi niya kaya to speak the language fluently.

Rafael knew na kapag 'di siya nakapagsalita ng Tagalog like a native, he might as well forget his wish na mag-succeed sa showbiz.

He knew he could get himself a tutor in Tagalog, but how to express the words right with the right emotion, ito ang gustong matutuhan ni Rafael.

Kaya, aside from the tutor, he made friends with taxi, jeepney, tricycle and pedicab drivers and conversed with them at first, sa alam niyang way of speaking the language. His barkada, who made tambay sa kanto where he lives, were of a big help, too.

"Hindi ko sila malilimutan," ani Rafael. "And, of course, my kasambahays. Ang labandera ko. I wish to thank them all for their effort, for their patience na makapagsalita ako ng Tagalog tulad nila. "

Masasabing nagbunga ang pagtitiyaga ni Rafael, since he is now the busiest among his contemporaries. Busy as a bee siyang maituturing since he is in the cast of the currently showing box-office movie, When Love Begins, which allows him the chance na maging co-star at kaibigan sina Aga Muhlach at Anne Curtis.

He plays the 'devil' in the horror teleserye, Maligno, which co-stars Claudine Barretto and Diether Ocampo.

Together with the other members of the sing-and-dance group, Cover Boys, Rafael is currently rehearsing for their concert, Cover Boys: Uncovered, at the Music Museum on May 9 and 10, 8 p. m.

The other Cover Boys are Jake Cuenca, Zanjoe Marudo, Jon Avila, Victor Basa, Will Devaughn, Ron Morales, John James Uy and Marvin Raymundo.

HAPPILY in love rin si Rafael. Yup, sa isang fellow Star Magic talent, si Malaya Lewandowski.

Two years na silang mag-sweetheart.

Malaya, like Rafael, has a Filipino mom, whose family name is Rivera. Her dad is Polish. She was born and raised in the U. S.

Malaya said she used to hate her name. Kasi, tinatawanan daw siya ng kanyang American friends and classmates kapag sinasabi niyang "Malaya" means freedom in English.

"But now that I'm in the Philippines, I just love my name," aniya.

Malaya turned 20 years old last April 13. She celebrated her birthday in ASAP '08, where Rafael is a mainstay.

Malaya met Rafael noong magkasama sila sa comedy show na Bora. Mainstay siya ng programang MYX for North America, where she is a VJ.

Tinutulungan siya ni Rafael na matutong magsalita ng Tagalog fluently.
