RAIN may have poured but everyone retained their poise.

The sudden downpour did not stop Studio 23's US Girls hosts Angel Aquino, Iya Villania, and Meagan Young from handing out awards for the most fashionable set in the Manila crowd. Angel, Iya, and Meagan remain poised amid the rain. (Sunnex)

The US Girls August Awards held at the Eastwood City Mall recognized the most fashionable women, the best make-up artists, the stylists of the year, and the faces of the year.

Most Fashionable Women awardees Anne Curtis and Divine Lee encouraged fellow Filipinas to patronize local designers. "Go local," they echoed. Chesca Garcia, with Anne Curtis and Iya Villania. (Sunnex)

When asked what she was wearing, Bianca Valerio, also a Most Fashionable Woman awardee, proudly said she was wearing clothes from the ukay-ukay.

"One can look good without spending a lot of money," she said.

On the other hand, Bea Soriano, who bagged the same award as Bianca, Anne, and Divine, had a unique fashion mantra: "Personalize universal fashion."

The US Girls Icon of the Year Award, given to the girl who embodied the US Girls idea of the modern Filipina, went to KC Concepcion. US girls hosts Angel Aquino and Iya Villania. (Sunnex)

Before going onstage, KC was serenaded with an acapella version of her revival song "Updated Version of Me."

"This really inspires me a lot and empowers me to continue what I have been doing," KC said. "All girls, all the boys, everyone part of the youth, especially us Filipinos should try to be the best we can be in our own little way."

She added: "I am so touched, especially with them singing the 'updated' version of 'Updated Version of Me."

The song is still among the most requested in the airwaves despite the fact it was part of her album released a year ago.

Other performers of the night were Ballet Philippines, De La Salle University Innersoul, Ronnie Liang, and upcoming singer Princess.

Well-attended by women from the X and Y generation, which included fashion bloggers and students from Miriam College, the event also featured a fashion show from designers Tippi Ocampo, Charina Sarte, and Reian Mata.

Cheska Garcia-Kramer, one of the original US Girls hosts but now enjoying life as a mother, also graced the awards with husband Doug Kramer.

The event was dubbed as the US Girls August Awards because the word "August" implies grandeur.

"Not only is the 8th month of the year considered lucky, it also means marked by majestic dignity and grandeur," Iya said.

There will be a premier telecast of "Us Girls August Awards" on August 30 at 7 p.m. on Studio 23.
