Column: Manila, Jill Beltran, Entertainment Studio 23's US Girls hosts Angel Aquino, Iya Villania, and Megan Young will be holding their first ever fashion awards dubbed "US Girls August Awards" on August 28 at Eastwood Mall in Libis, Quezon City.
At a press conference Thursday, the three fashionable women have informed the entertainment press on what to watch out for as they hail the best dressed, most beautiful, and most fashionable star in the entertainment industry today.
Angel first explained that they came up with August Awards to be able for them to recognize artists who have excelled in the field of fashion. She added that they have branded it as "August Awards" as they discovered that the meaning of the month of August is "impressive".
"August Awards is basically how artists impressed us for the past on year with their works in their specific fields," she said.
There will be four categories such as: "Stylist of the Year," "Make-up Artist of the Year," "Most Fashionable," and "Face of the Year." A special award called "Us Girls Icon Award" will also be given to the most trendsetting celebrity embodying the real modern woman as they described to be independent, smart, adventurous and current.
Asked how do they chose their nominees, Angel explained, "We made a shortlist of all the eligible candidates, we also consulted some experts about the candidates that we think should be in the category. The staffs among themselves are also consulting other people." 'US Girls' hosts Megan Young, Angel Aquino, and Iya Villania will hail this year's most stylish personality in the entertainment industry through the very first "US Girls August Awards" on August 20. Megan added: "We considered almost all the stars but those credible people that we consulted were able to make the final list of the candidates."
In the list, it is evident that most of the nominees are from ABS-CBN, but the US Girls hosts brushed off partiality when it comes to deciding who to win. The winner will be based on online poll voting and the judgment of the entire US Girls team, they said.
Iya said this is how August Awards are different from other fashion award giving bodies. "I think the fact the US girls august we will be the ones to chose that is different because we our own fashion judgment."
In addition, the awards night will not only be a simple announcement of winners but they said the public should expect a very creative event. There will be brilliant performances like ballet performers, strings, choral and fashion show featuring the designs of young Filipino designers.
The hosts hope to have a successful fashion awards for them to make it as an annual fashion event.
There will be a premier telecast of "Us Girls August Awards" on August 30 at 7 p.m. on Studio 23.
