Champagne finds her niche

You should see the La Salle University-educated Champagne Morales now! From a pop singer, she has turned into a rocker complete with the attitude. With the release of the Rekindle CD under Vicor Music, she repackages herself into a glam rocker, her sweet voice now on full-throat strength, so powerful it floats over the amplified instruments. Gigging in hole-in-the-wall music bars must have given her valuable tutorial in singing and showmanship. After being tutored by Al Albert in songwriting, she managed to come up with six of the 10 songs of the Rekindle album. Champagne poured all her artistic energy in composing and recording the blaster Sigaw, the lead guitar-driven Save Me, the double-tracked Not Over You, Second Time Around, Sayang, Without You, Far Away, Take Me With You, Bumalik Ka and Angas Pinoy. Paul Soriano directed the Sigaw music video.

Jericho and Heart to host Rush TV

Invited to do the role of a reporter in Pangarap ng Bituin, Jericho Rosales and Sarah Geronimos teleserye, which is currently in principal production, Jericho confirmed that Heart Evangelista and himself have accepted to be hosts of Rush TV. Heres the catch! This is subject to the approval of ABS-CBN Television Head Charo Santos-Concio.

Rush TV is the newest project of the tubes pillar Bert De Leon with director Bong Agustin under MooMoo Productions. Bong calls it the show by students but for everybody. Composed of different student organizations from the metros universities, from the Ateneo University to Polytechnic University of the Philippines, Rush TV Club members will contribute approved eight-minute competition and student-made segments in connection with its variety-game-family show format. Under Bert and Bong, members will be instructed on television production and guided by them during actual shoots. Eventually, Rush TV will branch off into multi-media platform on radio, print and interactive web. Target launch of this Monday-to-Saturday show is on Sept. 15 on Studio 23 from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Breaking buzz: Jerichos Jeans band, by the way, will be featured exclusively on I-Tunes from Aug. 14 to 28. Screening on other music portals follow to allow fans based abroad to have access to songs of its Loose Fit CD as released by EMI Philippines. Its now promoting the second single Tuwing Nakikita Ka, a love song composed by Jericho for Heart, the music video of which Jericho also directed. The CD will also be released in Singapore, Brunei and Indonesia.

Entertainment Live demolishes Startalk

Entertainment Live, ABS-CBNs new showbiz-oriented show with Toni Gonzaga, Bianca Gonzales and Mariel Rodriguez as hosts, was inaugurated last Saturday with a top 10 hot entertainment buzz format. For the pilot broadcast, it ditched perennial leader Startalk with a 15.5%, 16% and 14.7% in Mega Manila, Metro and Suburbs viewership readings, respectively, as against 13.7%, 14.2% and 12.7%. From this initial broadcast, it looks like Startalk is in danger of having a strong competitor that threatens its hold on the after-the-Saturday-noontime-show timeslot. It has the correct formula, a no-fluff entertaining format as conceptualized by the same creative and technical people behind The Buzz. For starters, it had Paul Soriano coyly appearing with girlfriend Toni while doing the chart-buster Catch Me Im Falling. They did this by presenting Entertainment Live as an alternative show: all-young hosts, a no-fail format, intriguing content with visuals that grab attention, a sense of fun and global scope. Taste Entertainment Live today after Wowowee!

Only Carlo and Donna can

To make komiks a mass-based entertainment medium again, Komiks King Carlo Caparas with wife Donna Villa are releasing the titles CJC (for Carlo J. Caparas) Filipino Klasiks, CJC Super Funny, CJC-OFW Superstories, CJC-Guwapo and CJC Tagalog Klasiks on Sept. 4 as published by Sterling Publications. What they are launching is an improved type of komiks, 36-color pages printed on higher grade paper for a great value of P10. Hes aware that a cause of komiks decline was the use of low-grade paper. Carlo is the graphic novelist who brought the komiks to an all-time high after Max Ravelo and group made it a popular source of mass entertainment. His novels Bakekang, Ang Panday and Andres de Saya were made into full-length features due to their entertainment and cultural values. This is a worthy project and if theres anybody who can make it work, its Carlo and Donna!

Angel signs ABS-CBN contract today

To avoid the widely anticipated ambush of media people, a visibly relaxed Angel Locsin arrived from Los Angeles at 4:15 a.m. last Thursday via PAL flight PR 103 one day before her original arrival schedule. Surrounded by close-in personnel, she was met at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, accorded the star treatment and was largely unmolested. She was met by dad Angel Colmenares, manager Becky Aguila and older sister Ella with Malou Santos, Roxy Liquigan and Mico del Rosario representing ABS-CBN. GMAs Jopay Manago was present. When Angel saw her, she gave her a big smile and a warm hug. Before her departure to the US, she was accused by GMA of being irritable to her. In fact, the incidents footage was aired in Startalk.

Angels contract signing today is a formality. Theres already a meeting of minds between her manager and dad before and ABS-CBN when they sent a letter to GMA informing it that Angel is no longer signing with the network. When Buzzstation had an exclusive interview with them, both confirmed that Angels transfer is a done deal. Minor details were ironed out when Becky met up with ABS-CBN executives Charo Santos-Concio and Malou Santos the following week. Even without the contract signing, Angel has effectively transferred to the Kapamilya network. They picked today, Aug. 11, as an auspicious day for the contract signing according to a feng shui expert.

Breaking buzz: (1) Its confirmed! Angels mom is not a domestic helper who her father made pregnant. Details that have been squealed to the media are all hogwash like all of the cheap charges against her person such as the sex video thing! Its pure character assassination!

(2) Roselle Monteverde-Teo reasons out that the non-inclusion of the three co-productions in Angels contract with Regal Films was verbally agreed upon by Becky. When informed about this, Angels legal adviser Joji Alonso sent this text message: A verbal agreement cannot overrule a written contract under the Parole Evidence rule. Besides, Roselle took this up with Becky after the fact.

High 5 Dancers

The High 5 Dancers, five of the metros sexiest female dancers, are ready to do have a big showdown at Muzeo Resto Lounge & Bar of Hotel Guillermo in Pagadian City on Aug. 15.
