| When real men danceAuthor: Remy Umerez WHAT a refreshing change to see real men dancing in ABC's Celebrity Dance competition. In last Sunday's show,we witnessed singing heartthrobs doing their thing on the dance floor. These include Luke Mijares with Carla Bicaro, Jeffrey Hidalgo with dance partner Rhea Obong, acoustic singer Nyoy Volante with Hannah Marciano and PBB housemate Ronnie Liang and partner Olivia Cui. The resident judges composed of international dance champion Miss Edna, director Audie Gemora and Regine Tolentino (whose Tagalog is still as crooked as Troy Montero's) were as usual very generous with their verdicts but when translated into scores, they amounted to very low grades. Could it be true that they were cautioned not to be harsh with their criticisms and let their scores reveal the truth? How we love to see Arnelli Ignacio do the judging since he is very capable of berating someone with a smile. Audie complimented Luke Mijares for being a total performer while Regine finds his dancing pretty darn good. Jeffrey and Rhea were a lovely pair indeed. Theirs was a fun number and the judges were amazed how they were able to pull it off considering they only practiced on a budget time. This will never do for Miss Edna who would rehearse for long hours to perfect a dance. Hidalgo is blessed, Edna says, because he can both sing and dance. Jeffrey, on the other hand, confessed that dancing has always been his frustration. Another pair which exuded hot chemistry on the dance floor was Nyoy Volante and partner Hannah who finds Nyoy very easy to teach. The lavish compliments Nyoy received ranges from "excellent body movement, sees soul in their dance and what a beautiful couple they make. " Ronnie Liang proved that tall guys like him can dance. "Too gifted, looked so fresh and he was like a prince charming" were the praises he reaped from the three dance experts. Beautiful to watch and so macho in his movements, confirmed Miss Edna. "He was quiet in the beginning and was quite stiff but later on, he was graceful especially when doing the lift. " Would Douglas Nierras agree with the comments coming from the judges? He was there to plug the forthcoming Powerhouse dance concert at the Araneta Coliseum celebrating the groups two decades of dancing. Now, let's look at the scores the dance contestants got: 82. 4 for Jeffrey Hidalgo, 82. 8 for Ronnie, 84. 2 for Luke and 88. 3 for Nyoy. CO-STARS HEAP PRAISES FOR SHARON WHAT has the cast of Caregiver said on working with the megastar Sharon Cuneta? John Estrada, who plays Sharon's husband in the much-awaited movie, says: "Sobrang napakabait. Sabi ko nga sa kanya, 'you know what, pwera plastikan, (it's) no wonder you're a megastar because you're unbelievably nice. " Kapag nasa ibang bansa ka, doon mo makikita ang pagkatao ng isang tao. Sharon is our megastar pero kung saan kami tumatambay, kung saan kami natutulog, nandoon siya. Wala kaming narinig na reklamo. Sobrang lamig, umuulan at nag-hailstorm pa, hindi namin siya naringgang nag-complain. We had great working relationship. " Mickey Feriols says, "It is like an answered prayer. Nang malaman kong makakasama ko si Sharon, hindi ko na itinanong what my role would be. " PONY has been here for quite sometime but it is only now that it is being endorsed no less by Bamboo. Could it be because Bamboo has become more popular than before? Bamboo and his band mates must be comfortable wearing the sports shoes which comes in various designs. "Of the many important parts of our body, it is our feet that we should take care of as it carries our entire weight. And we would not be patronizing Pony if we don't find it comfy. I can also vouch for its durability," he said. Bamboo is one of the nicest and down-to-earth musicians we have the pleasure of meeting. We like him because he displays fine breeding, is quite articulate and speaks with sense. Bamboo almost gave up a singing career when he went to the United States to pursue his studies. He returned to the Philippines to renew his ties not knowing that it will lead to forming another band. As everybody can see, Bamboo is on his way to becoming a music icon. His dedication and sincerity to his craft is felt with every album the group produces. Concert-wise, Pony in cooperation with Fudge presents Rock N Rumble (with Bamboo of course) at the World Trade Center on July 5. It will also feature Game Girls and live URCC match.
