HOWIE D., the Backstreet Boys member who did a duet of "I’ll Be There" with Sarah Geronimo, was born in Orlando, Florida on August 22, 1973. Standing 5’7," his full name is Howard Dwaine Dorough and is the fifth and youngest child of Hoke (Irish) and Paula (Puerto Rican) Dorough. His older siblings include Pollyanna, who is also a singer, and Caroline Dorough-Cochran, who unfortunately passed away from lupus at the age of 38 in 1998. He’s known for his humanitarian efforts with the Dorough Lupus Foundation, created in honor of his late sister.

In 1992, at the age of 19, as Howie was struggling to find work as an actor, he kept running into two younger men on the audition circuit: Alexander James "A.J." Mclean, and Nickolas Gene "Nick" Carter. The three young men came up with the idea to form a singing group, but decided that they needed at least one more member. It was through auditions that the boys found Kevin Scott Richardson, who would become the oldest member of the Backstreet Boys. Kevin made the suggestion of adding his cousin Brian Littrell to the group, as Brian himself was a phenomenal singer, and in 1993, the group known as the Backstreet Boys was born.

Howie is in town to shoot the music video of "I’ll Be There" with Sarah and promote the song in "ASAP" and the SM Mall of Asia this Sunday. He was presented by Viva Records to the press last Tuesday after he just came in from California.

He came with his wife, Leigh Boniello, a webmaster from N.J. She did their website in 2000, they became friends and went steady for six years before getting married last December. While here, they’ll visit Boracay. Howie has also tried acting and appeared in films like "Parenthood" and "Constellation." On TV, he acted in "Roswell" and "Sabrina, The Teenage Witch."

So how’s married life?

"It’s been great," says Howie. "We’re on an extended honeymoon."

We ask Leigh what the most endearing traits of Howie are.

"He’s such a sweet, kind person and a good husband," she says. "He’s so family oriented and has a very big heart. He has teamed up with his brother, John, to put up six condos and their first hotel, Country Inn Suites in Cape Canaveral on the waterfront of the east coast of Florida."

We ask Howie how is it working with Sarah.

"She’s great. It’s my first time meet her as I recorded my part of our song in Orlando while she recorded hers here. I heard so much about her from Christian de Walden, producer of our song, and he’s right, she’s very talented. This is my first time to collaborate with a Filipino singer and I’m excited to sing with her in our show at the Mall of Asia this Sunday."

And how does Sarah feel singing with Howie? "I’m honored and flattered that I’m the one chosen to sing with him kasi fan talaga ako ng Backstreet Boys," she says. "Nagulat nga siya kasi I sang all their hit songs to him. They’ve sold 75 million records but despite their success, he’s very down to earth pa rin."

Allen Dizon initially refused to another sexy role after he won awards for his performance in "Twilight Dancers" and for his being chosen as Outstanding Kapampangan artist. "I didn’t suddenly become a prude after doing so many bold flicks, but I felt tapos na ako sa ganyan kaya nga I do more whole some projects na like ‘Ikaw Pa Rin’ with Ai Ai de las Alas and ‘Kung Fu Kids’," he says. "Lalo na nga, I’m now married and have kids of my own. Also, may sarili na akong business, so I feel I must be more choosy. But when I read the script of director Keith Sicat for ‘Room 213,’ I relented in my decision and consented to do it kahit ang dami ko na namangsexy scenes with Gwen Garci who plays my wife, and Maricar de la Fuente as the woman I have an affair with. Also, I welcome the chance of working with an acclaimed new director like Direk Keith whose previous indie films have won awards in festivals abroad."

His most daring scene was one where he is making love to Gwen in a banca and they’re both nude. "I agreed to show do butt exposure as it’s important to show that Gwen and I are doing everything to save our shaky marriage. Ten years na kasi kaming mag-asawa, bored na kami dahil wala kaming anak, kaya we experiment in our sex life to make our relationship more lively. But ‘Room 213,’ which opens in theaters today, is not just a sex show. It also delves into the emotions of a husband and a wife na may problema sa marriage nila. I have a breakdown scene here where I cry unabashedly at meron ding scene si Gwen while taking a bath in abatya na napaiyak siya nang husto. So hindi lang katawan ang pinakita namin dito kundi acting din. But this is probably going to be my last sexy movie. Kasi after this, I’m in the Viva filmfest entry, ‘Baler,’ where I play a rebel soldier and I have a lot of scenes with respected actor Phillip Salvador who plays our leader. I’m really happy to be able to work with him in this historical movie about the siege of Baler during the Phil-American war at the turn of the 20th century."

As a producer, Allen put up his own ATD Entertainment and came up with "Paupahan," which was shown a few months ago and got positive feedback. He’s encouraged by its success and is now producing not just one but two new projects, "Paputok" (Firecracker) and "Marino."

"‘Paputok’ is about child labor and how they are abused in the firecracker industry," he says. "May mga batang napuputulan ng daliri o namamatay sa pagsabog ng mga paputok. I will be completely deglamorized in this film at gusto nila tumaba ako, lumaki ang tiyan, para malimutan ng tao ‘yung dating hunky image ko. ‘Marino’ naman is my tribute to marine schools and to seamen who leave their families to work as OFW’s sailing in the high seas. Some of them, nagiging biktima pa ng foreign pirates while aboard their ships. Both films are aimed to be released by next year."

After returning from the US last week, KC Concepcion is leaving again tonight, this time with Richard Gutierrez, for the premiere of their movie, "For the First Time," in Vienna, Austria.

What can she say about the case of her dad, Gabby Concepcion, who’s now so controversial after he sued his manager and his manager, Mommy Rose, sued him in return?

"Siempre, I’m sad with this turn of events, but I’m praying for him na sana matapos na ito," she says. "I’m an Ambassador of Peace for the U.N. kaya, siempre, gusto ko maging peaceful ang lahat, especially para sa family ko. I honestly believe that with the help of prayer, maaayos din ang lahat for my dad."

Is she excited to travel with Richard to Vienna?

"Oh yes. Pareho kaming first time dun. His twin brother Raymond will be with us so barkada kaming mamamasyal dun. Actually, I’m more excited sa second movie that Richard and I will do, this time for GMA Films. It’s written and directed by Joey Reyes and we’ll make sure na ibang-ibang ito at bagong-bago from our first movie."

Patrick Garcia is returning anytime soon to Manila after the crash courses on film he took in the US. He’s excited to see his son with Jennylyn Mercado. Even his parents are excited to see their first grandchild. The question is: Will Jennylyn allow them to see Jazz?

Jen reportedly told a friend she’s reluctant to see Patrick again. "Ang katwiran niya, she has moved on. Kaya ayaw niyang magkita pa uli sila ni Patrick at magkaroon uli ng connection."

What Jen wants to do now is go back to work and GMA-7 is willing for her to star in an episode of "Dear Friend" where she will be reunited with former ka-love team, Mark Herras. She’s also given the go signal to shoot for Canary Films’ Metro filmfest entry, "One Night Only," which is topbilled by Katrina Halili.

"Biruin mo, siya ang winner sa ‘Starstruck’ at si Katrina was one of the contestants na naalis agad," observers one writer. "Pero ngayon, nalampasan na siya ni Katrina na mas sikat na kaysa sa kanya."

"Gaga! Hindi naman nagpabuntis at nanganak si Katrina,‘no?" says another writer.

After Jen, three other stars are giving birth anytime now: Aubrey Miles (with Troy Montero as dad), Inah Revilla (daughter of Sen. Bong) and Alicia Mayer (who won’t reveal the name of the dad of her baby is).

Luchi Cruz Valdez was doing well with GMA-7 when she decided to move to ABS-CBN News and Current Affairs Department. Now, we heard she’s under suspension due to personal differences with their boss, Maria Ressa, who was hired so they can overtake the news programs of GMA in the ratings game. Sad to say, GMA-7’s "24 Oras" remains to be the toprater and "TV Patrol" remains second fiddle. So maybe ABS really needs a revamp for them to be in better fighting form.

Now, we heard that "TV Patrol" female anchor Karen Davila, who’s also a recruit from GMA-7, is also in hot water and her contract might not be renewed. But if this were true, how come her Saturday morning show, "Working Mom," has just been extended from 30 minutes to one hour? Someone says it’s suspected that Karen might be feeding vital info to the competition, which is not at all believable. Well, as they say, the plot thickens. But honestly, we believe the main reason "24 Oras" is hard to beat is because of its two anchors: Mike Enriquez and Mel Tiangco. For one, Mike’s toprated "Imbestigador" has made his reputation even more unassailable.

Kris Bernal says it’s an honor to work with Judy Ann Santos in "Mag-ingat Ka sa Kulam." "I really admire her as an actress and I never thought I’d get the chance to work with her," she says. "Nahihiya pa ako noong una pero ang bait-bait niya kaya naging comfortable ako agad with her."

How does she feel she’s paired with Mart Escudero in "Kulam" and not with Aljur Abrenica who’s really her ka-love team? "Magka-batchnaman kami ni Mart sa ‘Starstruck’ at kami nga ang ‘Ultimate Sweethearts’ before he was paired with Jennica (Garcia) kaya at ease ako sa kanya. Anyway, magkasama pa rin naman kami ni Aljur in ‘Dyesebelna malapit na nga lang mag-end."

Tonight in "Dyesebel," Aljur as Paolo tries his best to help free Shiela Mae (Kris) from jail while Fredo (Dingdong Dantes) feels sad with the departure of Dyesebel (Marian Rivera) for Sirenea. Dyesebel is reunited with Bukanding (Paolo Ballesteros) and they patch things up with them, but the cave where they hide will be discovered by their enemies led by Usaro (Marco Alcaraz). Dyangga (Mylene Dizon) succeeds in defeating Mother of Pearl and she becomes more powerful. Meantime, Betty (Bianca King) kidnaps Ava (Jean Garcia), Dyesebel’s mom, and her friend Buboy, to be used as decoys so she can entice Dyesebel to come back. Dyesebel returns and fights with Betty, but one of her loved ones will die. Is it Ava or Buboy? Don’t miss the remaining episodes of "Dyesebel" as it reaches its climax.
