Youthful indiscretion haunts Cogie Domingo

YOUTHFUL INDISCRETION - Cogie Domingo is very much in the news these days because of his liaison with Che Tiongson, the former live-in partner of Chavit Singson.

But that was a year or so ago. Now, his youthful indiscretion is haunting him. But Cogie's not the lover referred to in the current scandal.

Upon learning of Cogie's affair with Che, his parents, human rights lawyer Rod and businesswoman Zennie Domingo, sent him right away to the US, where he stayed for many months.

In a way, Cogie's paid for his indiscretion, his acting career vanished into thin air. But even before his US "exile," Cogie has lost a lot of showbiz opportunities because of his unprofessionalism. Which is a pity as he's one of our most promising stars, not to say handsomest, years back, impressive in a number of films, especially Joel Lamangan's 'Deathrow.'

Hopefully, Cogie can recover lost glory. And if showbiz is out of the question, why not go back to school, get an education.

Had Cogie's career not been derailed, he could have been another Richard Gutierrez or Dingdong Dantes, his GMA colleagues.

BIG-SCREEN CHALLENGE - Aljur Abrenica and Kris Bernal have proved their popularity on the small screen via the GMA soaps 'Dapat Ka Bang Mahalin' (off the air) and 'All My Life' (still running). Now they have to prove their mettle on the big screen, launched by Regal in 'Nandito Ako... Nagmamahal sa 'Yo.'

A big plus in their launching movie is director Maryo J. de los Reyes, tested box-office and award-winning name. Backdrop of 'Nandito Ako' is beautiful Bohol, where Maryo J. comes from.

It'll be recalled that Regal built up such loveteams as Maricel Soriano-William Martinez, Dina Bonnevie-Alfie Anido, Snooky Serna-Albert Martinez.

Aljur and Kris are products of the GMA reality show 'Starstruck,' billed the ultimate hunk and the ultimate sweetheart.

LOVE, ACCEPTANCE, COMMITMENT - Those three words best describe the theme of 'Nandito Ako,' written by Jake Tordesillas and co-starring Baron Geisler, Valeen Montenegro, Anton Bernardo, Gerald Madrid, and Lloyd Samartino.

Maryo calls it "the most heartwarming story of young love."

"With this film, we are challenged to stand for the love that is true and lasting, just as Regal's commitment to always be on the lookout for the most promising stars of the future - such as Aljur and Kris," says Regal producer Mother Lily Monteverde.

To which daughter Roselle M. Teo adds, "We at Regal are happy to be given the chance to launch a very popular loveteam into the big screen. With this, we keep the Filipino movies alive."
