Richard Gutierrez is very proud of his latest program on GMA-7. It is an adaptation of Zorro, and Kapuso network’s most expensive show to date. The project is expected to give Richard’s popularity a boost.

“It just feels good that my home studio has strong faith in me all these years,” he says. “That’s why I always give my best in every project they assign to me. This is my seventh primetime starrer for GMA-7 after Mulawin, Sugo, Captain Barbell, Lupin, Kamandag, and Codename: Asero.

Zorro gives Richard a different kind of high.

“Maybe, it’s because of its huge scope. It’s my first time to do a period project. Our setting is the 1900s so we have to look, speak, dress and act like people from that era.

“We were also given a Spanish language coach who teaches the rest of the cast to deliver lines in Spanish correctly. Really, doing Zorro is like going back to History class. I learned a lot about various cultures. It’s truly a wonderful experience.”

Richard went through physical training in preparation for his role.

“Most taxing is fencing. It’s not easy to learn the art. But I’m proud that eventually, I became more comfortable with the sword. I also had rigid horseback riding lessons because Zorro is a horseman. Actually, I have basic knowledge in horseback riding but thanks to the training, I can say I improved a lot,” Richard reveals.

Richard is paired once again with Rhian Ramos.

“Lupin was our last project together. Now, I can see that she matured both as an actress and individual. I’m proud of her. Our friendship remains intact. I can assure the viewers that as Lolita, Rhian will sizzle on screen.”

Back on primetime

After the success of LaLola, Rhian Ramos returns as Richard Gutierrez’s leading lady in GMA-7’s Zorro. Some quarters are wondering why she accepted the role when she has already proven her worth as a star.

“Why not? My role in Zorro is not a minor one. Lolita is an integral character in the story. Besides, it’s Richard’s program. It’s public knowledge that my first TV show was with him (Captain Barbell). He’s my good friend and who am I to refuse being paired with one of showbiz’s hottest male stars. It’s an honor actually,” says Rhian.

Rhian sees another ratings champion in Zorro.

“It’s a fusion of various genres. There’s drama, action, romance, and comedy. The show caters to all types of viewers. The setting and costumes are fabulous. Surely, viewers will not be disappointed with what they’ll see,” she adds.

Meanwhile, the lovely star expresses her happiness that her LaLola leading man JC de Vera is going to stay with GMA-7.

“I’m glad that he’s still a Kapuso. He’s an asset to the network. I’m pleased with the development,” admits Rhian.

How’s their friendship doing? Are they still that close?

“It’s still the same.”

After Richard and JC, Rhian hopes to work with Dingdong Dantes.

“My God, of course it’ll be a dream-come-true: to star in a show opposite one of the world’s sexiest men. Wow! I think it’ll be great if I’ll be in a program with him and Marian [Rivera]. I can play Marian’s younger sister in the story. They are an immensely popular love team. It’ll be a privilege to work with them if ever,” she gushes.

Accidental meeting

In one rare moment, Gabby Concepcion and Sharon Cuneta’s paths crossed. This happened during the recent shooting of ABS-CBN 2’s Station ID. Both are Kapamilya talents. Gabby is happy with the said development.

“Actually, my communication line with Sharon is open. I even greeted her on video during her last birthday, remember? We communicate through text and calls. But it was different when I got to see her personally during that particular time,” he says.

How did it happen?

“During the said shooting, I learned that she was also present. What I did was to go to her dressing room and asked how she was. It was a short encounter but it brought me a very happy feeling. Words aren’t enough to explain how I felt but overall, it was a very good and positive feeling to see her personally. At least, we were able to talk face-to- face even for a short time after everything that happened in the past.”

Obviously, Gabby is experiencing good vibes because of his positive outlook in life. For one, he is now in the cast of May Bukas Pa.

“I really didn’t expect for it. I was even surprised that I was asked to be part of the soap opera. But I’m very proud with my inclusion in this project. I know that it imparts valuable lessons to the viewers. It feels good to be part of a show which touches the lives of many.”

He has also an upcoming series with Lorna Tolentino and John Estrada.

“That’s another interesting project! I heard how the story will run and I love it. The thought of working with Lorna again excites me. We starred in various movies before and I know she’s a good actress and is very professional. There’s John too who’s also a competent performer. I’m certain the show will become a top rater since it marks Lorna’s grand homecoming to ABS-CBN 2,” Gabby ends optimistically.
