Zsa Zsa on Dolphy, Dingdong

Zsa Zsa on Dolphy, Dingdong

Author: Mario E. Bautista
Column: Dream Factory

Zsa Zsa Padilla’s last album was made seven years ago with Viva Records. She has since moved to PolyEast, where her daughter Karylle also did an album recently. Why the seven-year gap?

"I was fighting kasi for an all-original OPM album but Viva failed to give it to me," she says. "Then this offer from PolyEast came, ‘Unchanging Love.’ Hindi rin all-original, sa next albumko na raw ‘yun, but it does have original Tagalog songs, ‘Kung,’ ‘Iibigin Kita Muli’ and ‘Pagmamahal na Walang Wakas.’"

After singing with Hotdog briefly, Zsa Zsa went solo with the song "Kahit Na" exactly 26 years ago.

"I’m glad I’m still around and continue to record new albums."

What does she intend to do with Dolphy on Father’s Day and when he celebrates his birthday in July?

"Wala pang plans. ‘Di ba dapat, his kids should plan for him for Father’s Day? As for his birthday, I’m sure there’ll be a celebration. Last year was memorable kasi ABS-CBN gave him a concert and named their theater after him."

Is it true she’s eligible now to marry but she no longer wants to walk down the aisle with Dolphy?

"No. My annulment case is still going on. There’s a story to that but I’m not allowed to discuss it. Six years na ‘yung annulment case, baka ma-extend pa if I talk about it. There was a time we planned the wedding na at nang ‘di matuloy, I went into a deep depression at naging traumatic for me. But a doctor friend told me that weddings are usually done to start a married life. In our case ni Dolphy, more than 20 years na kami and what else do we have to prove? Which is true naman, mas matagal pa kami kaysa other showbiz marriages. We have nothing else to prove as our relationship has withstood the test of time. Noon nga, pronounced pa ang age difference namin. But now, I’m 45 and he’s 81, kaya malapit na kaming mag-abot."

Is she happy with the way ABS-CBN is handling Karylle’s career?

"Oo naman. If there’s an upside sa breakup that happened to her, it’s the fact that people saw the grace in her. I’m really proud that she’s a graceful person. Naiisip ko nga, ang babait lahat ng daughters ko, pati sina Zia and Nicole. I must have done something good and even Dolphy said, Oo nga, ang babait ng mga anak mo."

Has she seen Dingdong Dantes after the split?

"Not yet. I’m praying for that nga, kasi I don’t know how I’d feel dahil nakita ko kung paano nasaktan ang anak ko. Kung siKay, graceful about it, ako, napo-provoke. I just hope we’ll have a good encounter. The truth is may pictures pa siya sa bahay namin up to now kasi we really considered him a part of our family."

How does she feel about the trouble that her friend Dr. Vicki Belo is facing right now, considering she’s a Belo endorser?

"I don’t know, nakikitsismis din lang ako. I haven’t seen the videos and I have no intention of seeing them. I pray she’ll get through this unscathed. Lilipas din naman ito."

Vicki fell for a much younger man. Would she consider herself wiser as she fell for a much older man?

"I guess so, but if you’re old, siguro having a much younger partner does make you feel better, which must be the reason Dolphy fell for me. But no matter what your ages are, the important thing is to just have mutual love and respect for each other."

Who chose the revivals in her album?

"PolyEast came up with a list and I just chose the ones I like. Our carrier single is ‘Hanggang’ by Wency Cornejo. Kasama rin dito ang ‘Memories’ by Joey Albert, ‘Nais Ko’ by Miguel Vera, ‘Nasasaktan’ by Reuben Laurente, ‘Muli’ by Vina Morales, ‘Changes’ by Carla Martinez, ‘Ikaw Lang’ by Chad Borja and ‘Kung Alam Mo Lang’ by Joanne Lorenzana. The album will be launched at ‘ASAP’ this Sunday."

In the light of the intrigues that link them, Ruffa Gutierrez and John Lloyd Cruz reportedly made an agreement for them to avoid seeing each other from now on.

"Para ma-stop na lahat ng issues about us," says Ruffa.

John Lloyd readily agreed because he wants the relationship of Ruffa with her mom Annabelle Rama to go back to as it was before. Perhaps, with this, Annabelle will now believe that nothing romantic is really going on between them.

"I really want to reconcile with my mom kaya tine-textko na siya to offer the peace pipe," says Ruffa. "But so far, hindi pa siya sumasagot."

In "Banana Split," Angelica Panganiban does a mean impersonation of Kris Aquino’s style of hosting in "SNN." Has she ever asked Kris about her reaction?

"Hindi po," she says. "But I heard she takes it positively. Ngayon nga, ‘yung designer ng clothes niya, igagawa na rin ako ng sarili kong version para mas magaya ko siya nang husto."

Is she really the cause of Cristine Reyes’ decision to leave "Banana Split"?

"I don’t think so. Okay naman kaming lahat with her. So we don’t know kung saan galing ‘yan. I think it’s her personal decision na umalis."

Angelica just signed a new two-year contract with Star Cinema. Star executive Malou Santos says she’ll do three new films with them. One is "I Love You, Goodbe," now filming, with Gabby Concepcion, Kim Chiu and her real life boyfriend Derek Ramsay. It’s theme song is Joey Albert’s "It’s Over Now." This will be followed by a comedy with Vhong Navarro to be directed by Joyce Bernal and another film with Bea Alonzo, Toni Gonzaga and Pokwang about women of today, to be megged by Jeffrey Jeturian. On ABS-CBN, she has started taping a new series, the remake of a Mexicanovela, "Rubi," with Diether Ocampo.

"I’m really grateful to Star and ABS sa dami ng assignments that they give to me."

How’s the film with Gabby turning out to be?

"Maganda, it’s directed by Tita Laurice Guillen who directed me before in ‘Santa Santita.’ Fifty percent na kami. ‘Yung scenes na lang ni Derek ang ‘di nakukunan as he’s still busy shooting his movie with Bea Alonzo and Sam Milby, ‘And I Love You So,’ and twotelenovelas, ‘Nasaan Ka Maruja?’ with Kristine Hermosa and ‘The Wedding’ with Anne Curtis."

We heard she has a bedscene with Gabby.

"Yes. Part naman ‘yun ng pagma-mature ko as an actress after playing Aga Muhlach’s wife in ‘Love Story.’ Hindi na ko nailang kasi we’ve worked before in ‘Iisa Pa Lamang’ at maganda ang naging bonding namin dun. Also, I trust our director kaya relaxed ako kahit sa bedscene."

How would she compare Gabby and Aga?

"Parang hindi naman fair pagkumparahin sila kasithey have different personalities. Pero pareho silang masarap katrabaho. Kung may kaibhan man, mas childish si Kuya Gabo kasi mahilig mang-asar at kung minsan, ‘di mo alam mo if he’s serious or just joking."

So how is Derek doing?

"Ayun, nagkasakit. Kasi wala siyang rest. He’s doing two movies and two TV shows, so araw-araw talaga siya nagtatrabaho at bumaba ang resistensiya so he got sick. But he’s okay now. Ako kasi mismo ang nagpapainom ng gamot sa kanya kaya gumaling agad with my tender loving care."
