ZsaZsa Padilla and daughter Karylle grace the cover of Working Mom Magazine's April 2009 issue and talk about how they got the chance to rebuild a once-strained relationship.

Getting married at the very young age of 16, ZsaZsa decided to leave the marriage seven years later, leaving the then six-year-old Karylle in her father's care. The Divine Diva shared how she was criticized for leaving her young daughter. "But actually, it was more of, at that age, I understood I could not take care of her. There were other things for me to do," confessed ZsaZsa. She even cited examples of unprepared mothers who stayed with their kids only to come to disastrous results. The singer shared that she did not expect her young daughter to comprehend why she left at that time, but she that hoped that Karylle would one day understand her when she was older.

For her part, Karylle admitted that it was tough to grow up in a broken family. "The whole family thing, it took me a while," she said. When she was older, she and ZsaZsa with daughters Zia and Nicole, took the chance to bond by visiting places in and out of the country. Now, Karylle describes her relationship with her mom as deep and very close.

Ever since Karylle moved to ABS-CBN late last year, she and her mom have had the chance to make up for lost time. They are both regular hosts for ASAP '09 and will work together in two upcoming teleseryes, Maruja and Dahil May Isang Ikaw. Karylle's transfer has also been a defining moment for the mother-daughter relationship because it was also around that time that Karylle had her much-publicized breakup with actor Dingdong Dantes. Karylle found a shoulder to cry on in her mother, while ZsaZsa has witnessed how mature and strong her daughter is in the midst of heartbreak.
