Keywords Guidelines

Keywords are intended to be ordered in order of importance, i.e., each keyword is less important as you go down the list. However, this is probably not true for most titles.

A keyword must be one word only. "serial number" is not a keyword because it is two words. "serial-number" is correct.

Try to use keywords already used; don't make up new keywords like "cop" if there is already a keyword "police."

A keyword can be any notable object in the series, or a concept, style or aspect.

Remember, the purpose of the keywords is to provide easy searching and browsing. Don't remove a keyword unless it's untrue, and equally, don't add a new keyword unless you're sure.

Please use singular words, i.e., "locomotive" not "locomotives" even if the movie has many locomotives in it.

There are some keywords that receive special treatment by the database display functions:

  • reenactment - used for a Documentary so that actors portraying people are not listed as "Self."
  • non-fiction - used for a non-Documentary title, like a Talk-Show, to indicate that the people are portraying themselves.
  • omnibus - used for series that included volumes of mini-series or segmented shows.
  • character-in-title - use if the name of the main character is use in the series.
  • sitcom - use this for series that are under the category of situational comedy.
